Helldivers 2 has been a huge live-service success for Sony, but otherwise, its recent ‘forever game’ efforts appear to be faltering. Hero shooter Concord was shut down within weeks. Recent reports claim that a God of War multiplayer game has also been cancelled. And now, seemingly, an in-development MMORPG based on Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West has gone the way of the non-robotic dinosaur. Produced by NCSoft, the Korean developer behind Aion and Throne and Liberty, the Horizon MMO is – or was – separate to Guerilla Games’ own alleged multiplayer project. But fresh information suggests it’s been abandoned.
Speculation about an upcoming Horizon MMORPG began in earnest in 2023, after NCSoft began hiring for the pseudonymous ‘Project Skyline.’ It was believed that the game, inspired by the worlds of Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West, was internally referred to as ‘Project H.’ Initial rumors, based on the social media accounts of existing or former NCSoft employees, suggested the game was being built in Unreal Engine 5, that it would be released after NCSoft’s Aion 2, and that it could arrive in late 2025.

However, a new report from Korean publication MTN says that various projects at NCSoft have been cancelled, including Project H. Translated from Korean into English by Google, the report explains that the decision to cancel ‘H’ was made by NCSoft at the end of 2024. The would-be game’s development team has reportedly been disbanded, and those working on the project have been assigned to other internal divisions.
With regards to Guerilla’s own Horizon multiplayer game, the developer recently posted a job listing for a software engineer, who will work specifically with the “online Infrastructure team [which] owns our [Guerilla’s] online multiplayer game infrastructure.” Elsewhere, Sony has reportedly just canceled a new God of War online game.
